Parents' Support Group cooks up a fun-filled craft fair!

9th Jun 2017

The Parents’ Support Group held a ‘Cookery & Craft’ Fair in St. Patrick’s Hall, Bryansford on Sunday 4th June.

The event was a great success reflected in the tremendous amount of £1500 being raised.

Children were spoilt for choice with pottery making, cupcake decorating, face painting, balloon modelling, seed planting and ceramic painting among the many activities available to families.

The cookery demonstrations by Paul Cunningham of Brunels were extremely well received and getting to taste his fabulous food was one of the highlights of the day.

It was food heaven all round with lots of lovely homemade traybakes, cupcakes, chutneys and jams for sale as well as ice cream, popcorn and a chocolate fountain.

Visitors to the event were treated to a wonderful display of Irish dancing from Lily Toland and Phoebe Grainger and the day concluded with a fantastic prize raffle.

The PSG would like to thank everyone who attended the event, provided help on the day or supported them in the running of the event. The group would particularly like to thank the following local businesses:

AJC; Brunels; Slieve Donard Hotel; Burrendale Hotel: Bon Bon; PJT Sales & Distribution; Tesco; Lennon’s Garage; Donard Wines; White Water Brewery; Kane’s Nursery; Gordon’s Chemist; Newcastle NCC; Mauds and the Cookie Jar.

Thanks also to Mourne Markets and Synergy for all their advice and help in sourcing local craft producers.

A special thanks to Jakki Trainer, Figment Ceramics for her non-stop work with kids on the pottery wheel and to Brenda Beeks, Maria Steel, Sarah Campbell and their kids for lending their artistic expertise.

Finally thanks to Fr. Jim for the use of the hall and to Brenda Webb for her assistance in setting up the event.

The fair follows a really successful BBQ at sports day on Friday 2nd June which raised £950. Many thanks to TS Foods for providing food for the BBQ and to PJT Sales & Distribution for tuck shop goodies! These events round off the fundraising programme for the 2016/17 school year. The fantastic amount raised over the weekend will go towards purchasing much-needed outdoor play equipment for the school.

The PSG is extremely grateful for the continued support shown by families and friends of St. Joseph’s Carnacaville and would like to take this opportunity to wish you all an enjoyable summer break.
