P5 ‘ Hands on Egypt’
P5 have spent a terrific day in Belfast at the Ulster Museum.
We planned to go here as part of our ‘Ancient Egypt’ World Around Us topic, and it was just fantastic.
We were brought into a learning area were we got to explore lots of artefacts all used in the mummification process: knives, obsidian, lids of canopic jars, linen and special gems placed onto the body during the operation.
Then we got to go to ‘work stations’ were we had to guess the Ancient Egyptian occupation. We are all experts on Ancient Egypt now and could correctly guess the roles of: mummifiers, scribes, craftsmen, make up artists and painters.
As well as looking around all the exhibitions, we finished off in the Ancient Egyptian catalogue, where we got to see Takabuti. She is a real life mummy, who even has some of her body exposed to see. This was truly fascinating.
Have a look at the photos from our day.
