P5 in Silent Valley
29th Jan 2024
As part of our ‘Water’ topic, the P5 class went on a school trip to Silent Valley. It was a cold day, but we braved the elements and learnt so much.
We had a brilliant guide called Anna, and she talked us through the history of Silent Valley and how it contributes to our water cycle. We learnt about the Mourne Wall, and even tried our hand at building one ourselves. We got to see the houses the workers lived in when they were building the reservoir and saw the granite stones that they used up close.
When it stopped raining, we got to try a bit of orienteering and Anna showed us the signs of wildlife in the Mourne area, before seeing the reservoir up close!
