Primary 7 Head for the Hills
The hardy Primary Sevens were in the Mournes as part of Adventure Club Day Two. They have been learning about maps and navigation in school. They produced some excellent plans of their classroom and the whole school, all requiring careful measurement and drawn to scale. They were then introduced to grid lines and the use of the compass. Thursday was the opportunity to get some practice in to "setting the map" while out on the hills. It was a cold day with the mountains covered in a blanket of snow, but we were well prepared with lots of layers and all the waterproof gear. After leaving the Tollymore Outdoor centre we headed for Ott car park and started the assent of Ott mountain. The children were fascinated by what they could do in the snow and ice. We came across a crag with icicles as thick and as long as the children's arms. Each team managed to summit and we had great fun on the way down. It was clear from the smiles and laughter that everyone had a great time.
