St Joseph's are Food Waste SUPER Heroes!

22nd Apr 2018

As part of the Food Waste Challenge, we have all been working hard to be food waste heroes by reducing the amount of food waste being put into our black bins in school.

  • P6 carried out a school bin audit and recorded the results;
  • A selection of pupils took part in an online survey about attitudes to food waste;
  • The eco-committee set up a fortnightly brown bin collection in school;
  • The eco-committee also put little brown food caddies in classrooms and the staff room;
  • P3, P4 and P5 children have been taking turns to monitor the playground bins at break time, helping boys and girls to make the right choices about their food waste;
  • P6 and P7 have set up a rota for emptying the food caddies throughout the school.

We learned this week that all of our hard work has paid off.  We have won BEST SCHOOL in our council area in the School Action category of the Food Waste Challenge. Our prize is a certificate and £300 for our school!

We are all Food Waste SUPER Heroes!
