The Big Summer Read
The children in St Joseph’s have long been encouraged to participate in the Libraries NI annual initiative to entice children to read over their long summer break. The annual reading initiative which is free to participants encourages children to continue reading throughout the summer months. The school recognizes that “The Big Summer Read” is a great way to keep children entertained during the holidays while encouraging them to read. A reading chart and record card was given to each participating child at the start of summer. The children were invited to challenge themselves to read as many books as possible recording each book on their reading chart. At the end of the summer, in September, each child receives a special certificate in recognition of their reading achievement.
